Can you find a job in Japan if you only speak English?
只会英语,在日本真的能找到工作吗?答案可能和你想的不一样。
Short answer: Yes — but your options will be limited.
Japan is becoming more open to global talent.
There are roles where English is enough — especially in IT, foreign companies, and global teams.
But here’s the reality most people don’t talk about:
English alone rarely sustains a career in Japan.
Because work is not just about skills — it’s about communication:
meetings, coordination, internal processes, and daily interactions.
And in most companies, that still happens in Japanese.
So the real question is not:
“Is my English good enough?”
It’s:
- Do you have specialized skills that companies need?
- Are you targeting the right industries?
- Are you prepared for a narrower career path at the beginning?
In Japan, English may help you enter the market,
but it doesn’t always help you grow within it.
Final thought:
English is not a passport. It’s a tool.
What truly matters is what you can do with it.
